The original Cypress Creek Library, built in 1976, was renovated in 1986. In the Fall of 1997, a new and larger replacement library was built adjacent to the existing building. The new facility is named in honor of former First Lady Barbara Bush, who has been a champion of reading and literacy. The Barbara Bush Library opened to the public on December 18, 2002 and was officially dedicated with a reception in honor of the former first lady on February 7, 2003. Since then, Mrs. Bush has visited the library several times to read stories to the children. The new library measures 32,000 square feet and has a collection of over 240,750. The registered borrowers numbers 82,053.
